Oil, British Interests and the Nigerian Civil War

By Chibuike Uche

Oil, British Interests and the Nigerian Civil War (2008) argues that British oil interests were instrumental in the decision of the British government to insist upon the implementation of the ‘One Nigeria’ solution in the Nigeria/Biafra conflict. Particularly, Britain was interested in protecting the investments of Shell-BP  in Nigerian oil and Britain yearned to keep Nigerian oil flowing to the impact of its domestic oil shortfalls caused by the Middle East Day War.
