Biafran Executive Jet
Brief soundless footage produced by Reuters News Archive of an impounded Hawker Siddeley DH-125 executive jet which had been ordered by Lt. Colonel Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the military governor of Nigeria’s Eastern region. The aircraft was being piloted by a 33-year old New Zealander when it was diverted to Lagos where it was diverted to Lagos where it was seized by the federal authorities. But Lt. Colonel Ojukwu had wanted to use the jet to take him to a secret location where he was due to meet with other members of Nigeria’s Supreme Military Council who chairman was Lt. Colonel Yakubu on January of 1967. The topic was Nigeria’s constitutional crisis.
